DYT’s Top Story:
ASCL have announced a new enquiry into the ‘forgotten third’ of pupils who fail to achieve at least a Grade 4 ‘standard pass’ in GCSE English and maths and to look into whether the current English Language qualification is fit for purpose.

‘Insufficient’ educational psychologists to ‘meet demand’ from schools, warns government report
Schools Week report that 90% of local authority educational psychologists warned they are unable to meet demand for their services, with two thirds of councils reported as struggling to fill vacant positions. The DfE announced that over 600 Educational Psychologist trainees will receive free tuition and grants, from a £31.6 million fund.
Tributes to Baroness Warnock
TES leads on tributes paid to Baroness Mary Warnock, who authored a landmark report on children with special educational needs and disabilities in 1978, following her death at the age of 94.

In an editorial, the paper warned that “decades of progress towards an inclusive model in which, as far as possible, all children are educated together, are being rolled back.” Read the full piece.

Tuesday:
The House of Lords question the government on the average time spent without appropriate Special Educational Needs support by students who have successfully appealed a decision to have an education, health and care plan.
Wednesday:
DYT publishes our response to Ofsted’s proposed changes to the inspection framework, keep an eye out on our website and twitter to read it.
Thursday:
The DfE releases statistics on apprenticeship, education and training annual national achievement rate tables at 9:30am.
Friday:
The Headteachers’ Roundtable Summit takes place in Birmingham.
