DYT attended the recent meeting of the APPG for Speech and Language Difficulties, run by the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists where we heard from the Minister for Children and Families, Nadhim Zahawi MP.

The Minister drew upon the Government’s response to the Bercow: 10 years on report  committing to another round of  Ofsted/CQC SEND inspections and a £20m investment into early years language support – both big wins from the report.

However, the RCSLT and I CAN commented that they have concerns that the Government’s actions will not cover the vast majority of children and young people (10%) who have persistent long-term speech, language and communication needs. It is these children and young people who don’t meet the threshold for an Education and Health Care Plan.
